How to keep a conversation going over text

Verdict first

Conversations die when they turn into interviews. Make statements, share a bit of yourself, leave hooks she wants to grab — and don't try to keep it going forever.

Why it dies

Question after question puts all the work on her. "How was your day? What do you do? Plans for the weekend?" is a form, not a conversation. She answers politely and nothing sticks.

Statements beat questions

Say something about yourself or make a playful guess about her. She'll correct you, tease you or add to it — and that's the conversation:

You strike me as someone with very strong opinions about breakfast
I just burned my pasta. Cooking is not my love language
Let me guess — you're the friend who plans all the trips

Leave a hook

End some messages with something open — a story you haven't finished, an opinion she'll want to argue with. Not every text needs a question mark.

Know when to stop

A conversation doesn't have to last all day. End it while it's good and use the momentum to set up a date.

Got to run, but I want the full story — tell me over drinks Thursday?
Verdict

Less interviewing, more playing. And end on a high, not a fizzle.
